🔳 What is ovarian cancer?
Is a malignant tumor in one or both ovaries.
It is the sixth most common malignancy in women behind breast, lung, bowel , uterine & malignant melanoma. It’s survival rate is <50%
because two-thirds of women present with advanced disease.
🔳 What are the types of ovarian cancer?
☑ Epithelial ovarian cancer.
☑ Germ cell tumors.
☑ Stromal tumors.
Epithelial ovarian cancer is the most of these types (90%).
It includes- serous & mucinous carcinoma.
🔳 How does ovarian cancer begin?
Ovarian cancer actually begins forming in the cells at the tail end of the fallopian tubes.
🔳 What are the risk factors of ovarian cancer?
⭕ Older age
⭕ Family history of ovarian cancer
⭕ Overweight
⭕ Endometriosis
⭕ Postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy.
🔳 What are the stages of ovarian cancer?
Stage 1: ⬇️ growth of ovaries
Stage2: ⬆️ growth upto pelvic region
Stage3: involving retro peritoneal lymph node
Stage4: ⬆️ growth of ovaries with distant metastasis.
🔳 What are the symptoms of ovarian cancer?
🔽 Abdominal distension or pain
🔽 Unexpected vaginal bleeding
🔽 Loss of appetite
🔽 weight gain
🔽 Ascites
🔽 Urinary obstruction
🔳 How can we diagnosis it?
🔵 Ultrasound scan-is the first line investigation
🔵 CT scan, MRI
🔵 Tumor markers-B HCG,lactate dehydrogenase, alpha fetoprotein (Exclude germ cell tumors)
🔵 Biopsy
🔳 What are the treatment of it?
